RUN FOR
YOUR WIFE
Directed by Mike Tunstall
NODA Review
An excellent production directed by Mike
Tunstall. An extremely funny, enjoyable well-known play by
Ray Cooney. Although so many professionals have tackled the
parts there is sometimes something extra that amateurs can
inject into a production. A brief resume John Smith has two
wives and all goes well until he has an accident and then
his cosy little world falls apart. The majority of the cast
were newcomers headed by Gordon Farrer as the lead
character, John Smith. This was a good performance by
Gordon, suitably frustrated and inventive when things start
going wrong. His two wives, Mary Smith (Shirley Kilshaw)
and Barbara Smith (Josephine Howard) were very good and
handled the the comedy with ease. Of all the cast, perhaps
John Stevenson's portrayal of Stanley Gardiner had the
edge. His speed of delivery and facial expressions were
superb. Both detective sergeants Troughton and Porterhouse,
played by Barry Carter and Alan Dyke, were well cast. And,
of course, Alan Pearson as Bobby Franklin - a delightfully
funny performance. It says a lot for set designers and
props when an audience feels part of the action rather than
on the outside looking in. CADOS always manage that feeling
of belonging. Well done.
