CHORUS
OF DISAPPROVAL
Directed by Roy Brooks.
NODA REVIEW
This production by Roy Brooks was a joy to watch.
Having seen this play on television and not having enjoyed
it, I was unprepared for the wit and sheer entertainment
from this talented company.
Ray Godfree was excellent as director, Dafydd Ap Llewellyn.
His having to recast nearly every major lead in the show -
The Beggar’s Opera - is every producer’s nightmare. Guy
Jones, played by Andrew Kidd, superbly handles stepping
into every part whilst Janice Bowyer gave a lovely
performance as Hannah, the long-suffering wife of the
director. Bridget Baines was played by Siobhan Edge - what
a tour de force! We have all known prompts like that!
Barbara Woolfe and Tony Akrigg, as husband and wife Fay and
Ian Hubbard, both gave good performances, especially the
evening scene with Guy and friend. Renee Clitheroe was
excellent as Rebecca Huntley-Pike, ably partnered by Alan
Pearson as her husband. Other parts were well played by Tom
Power, Martin Taylor and Brenda Bartlett. Very good sets
and lighting finished off a thoroughly enjoyable evening’s
entertainment.
