Review by Colin Magenty
This was a splendid pantomime and warranted the full house
it had .
We had very good performances from the experienced David
Hodson-Maughan and Barry Callander as Idle Jack and Sarah
Stewpot. It was nice to see young members of the youth
theatre coming through and Rachel Lacey did very well with
the important part of Alice. The evil Captain, not new
territory for Allan Mayer, had a “me too” Julian Carey as a
sidekick in Shane Munder. There was a charming fairy in the
form of Lesley Nicholson.
A special word for Tommy the Cat, played extremely well by
Hannah Liddle and for the two performances that really
stood out: first, Dick Whittington, played by Francesca
Leigh this was a smashing, thigh-slapping performance, and
second an outstanding performance from Kim Brookfield as
Queen Rat. She filled the stage each time she appeared and
gave the children cause to shout.
My only slight quibble was the length of the show but the
customers definitely got their money’s worth.
My congratulations to the production team and the
choreographer in particular; the dancing was of the high
quality I expect of them.
