MY FAIR
LADY
Directed by Wyn Tootell
NODA REVIEW
Even to consider this show on such a small stage presents
difficulties straight away. However, the excellent set
design and stage management of Bobbie Day went a long way
to making this show the success it was. David Baistow gave
a definitive performance as Professor Higgins. His young
Eliza (Gemma Thomson) carried the responsibility of such a
big part with ease and she sang beautifully - truly a star
in the making. Ken Thompson gave a lovely, easy performance
as Colonel Picketing. In spite of a bad throat, David
Meadows carried the character of Doolittle well. The best
Mrs. Pierce I have seen to date was Siobhan Edge - such a
wealth of expression in her face - a brilliant performance.
Renee Clitheroe was suitably grand as Mrs. Higgins. There
was good strong singing from Andrew Lyons as Freddie. This
is not always an easy part to play but here it was handled
well. Good control of the orchestra by musical director,
Peter Morrison, showed particularly in the big production
numbers. This My Fair Lady was another high quality
production under the direction of Wyn Toot
