Set in suite 648 of the Westminster Hotel; the most recent
offering from CADOS really did have the audience in
stitches.
Leading the cast is Lawrence Cohen as the lying, cowardly
Richard Willey MP - a Labour junior minister who is having
a secret affair with the opposition leaders secretary June
Worthington played by Zoe Duffin.
The hilarious political farce unfolds as the amorous couple
discover a body which they are desperate to dispose of
before their secret is revealed.
Cohen carries off the role excellently and is well
supported by Allan Mayer who plays his bumbling, naive
parliamentary private secretary George Pidgen who
unwittingly finds himself drawn into the heart of the plot.
But the true character of the play has to be the Spike
Milligan-esque waiter Harold Cromwell - played by Eddie
Baldwin, who by the end had the audience in tears of
laughter by his presence alone.
The delivery of his one liners, not to mention the oysters
and champagne - and the constant interruptions by the hotel
manager, played by john Johnston - added to the confusion
and comedy.
The workers behind the scene also deserve a mention,
especially the person in charge of the deadly window who
completed the farce time and time again.
