review
This is a good example of Ayckbourn after his first few
plays; all the comedies have a dark side to them. With this
play the programme needs to be read before the start. If
not, you will lose the plot.
The central characters, the mother and father, were in the
safe hands of Joe Simmons and Renee Clitheroe; the sons
Michael Wignall and Steven Catterall both gave strong
performances, but were slightly bettered by the partners as
Zoe Duffin and Rebecca Andrews gave different but both
superbly done. Zoe as Stephanie gave a touching and
truthful performance as she and her partner Glyn played by
Micheal Wignall controlled the drama of the piece.
Rebecca as Maureen had all the comic lines and did not
waste any. Both couples came across very well but the
Italian waiter with a split personality, split five ways,
stole the show. With each waiter having a different
personality, Andrew Kidd can be proud of this performance -
as can the whole cast. Thank you for a very entertaining
evening.
