NODA Review
This was a very enjoyable production that I shall remember
for the team work and enthusiasm that came across to the
audience throughout the evening.
The play calls for a minimal set and what the company had
was adequate. No matter what the name of John Godber means
to you - you may hate or love his work - the one thing he
does is make people laugh: all it takes is a good director
and a talented cast, and here we had both.
Frank Rowley (Barry Callander) opened the play and set the
stage, his lines being spoken from the auditorium and which
immediately brought the audience into the action of the
play.
Alan Pearson played the coach, Arthur Hoyle, with amazing
energy. Andrew Kidd gave life to his character of Phil
Hopley as did John Griffin. He had easy delivery and looked
at home on the stage. Brian Clarke played Steve Edwards,
the last male member of the team. Brian also played the
part of Reg Walsh, the opposing manager. These were two
lovely cameos.
There is only one cast member left to mention. Emma
Bartlett gave the lads a run for their money as Hazel
Scott, their lovely trainer. This was a nice performance by
this lovely lady.
A good laugh was had by all.
